Our Society
James Bay Child Care Society is a registered charity in good standing (118972694RR0001), and a B.C. Registered non-profit society, established in 1976.
The main objects and purposes of our Society as outlined in our Constitution are:
- to operate a child care centre or centres, on a not for profit basis, for the care and benefit of children...;
- to carry out a program of activities for the purposes of promoting the physical, social, intellectual, and emotional growth of each child;
- to serve the child care needs of the community;
- to cooperate with other organizations whether incorporated or not, which have purposes similar in whole or in part to the purposes of the Society;
The Daycare
In 1984, our Society established Infant Plus Daycare Centre. The Centre provides care for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years, including those with special needs or diverse abilities. The Centre is licensed for 8 children, largely from the James Bay and the downtown Victoria area.
In July 2006, the Society voted to become a Waldorf-initiative. The James Bay Child Care Society seeks to provide daycare activities to support the healthy development of our young children by:
- building strength, perseverance, and good habits
- developing social awareness and sensitivity
- awakening a life-long enthusiasm for learning and for work

The Centre’s daily pattern allows the children ample time outdoors.
“Even in urban areas and in spite of rainy weather, a Waldorf preschool playground offers children a regular opportunity to connect with nature, engage in robust physical activity, and to experience the joys and wonders of the changing seasons. Given that books are now being written about children who are growing up with "nature deficit disorder," this has become an even more essential part of the school day.” (Waldorf Canada)
